Donate in Falkor’s Memory
Every donation keeps Falkor’s light alive for dogs still waiting for their forever home.
Falkor’s journey reminds us what’s possible when love meets resilience. He came into our lives as a rescue, carrying scars of the past, and became an assistance dog who gave comfort and strength through life’s hardest moments.
Though Falkor is no longer here, his story continues. Each donation in his memory helps us rescue and care for other dogs, giving them the same second chance that Falkor was given.

Her Beginning
On October 20th, 2023, A rescue group were alerted to a heartbreaking discovery: 8 tiny puppies dumped on the side of the road in bushland, with no houses in sight. In the scorching 32°C heat, these little ones had been left for dead.
Against all odds, they survived and began to thrive in care. Each developed their own personality, and together they became known as the Space Litter: Cosmo, Comet, Apollo, Titan, Luna, Nebula, Aurora, and Nova.
Her Journey With Us
Finding Family
Nova found her way into our family and into our hearts. Like Falkor before her, she carried the spirit of survival and the quiet strength of a dog who has already endured too much in life. Following in Falkors pawprints as another soul who had been abandoned but was now cherished.
Nova’s life began with hardship, but she has always been a survivor. What follows is the full story of one of the most terrifying days of our lives and the incredible community effort that brought Nova safely home.
What was supposed to be a quick few minutes stop to get a quick bite to eat at the last servo on the six lane F1 motorway out of Sydney turned into a nightmare.
Peak time during school holidays meant an already busy spot was even busier with many cars and trucks.
We usually would have Nova on a lead attached to her collar and then a tether attached to her harness. However, due to tiredness and only being a very quick stop, we made the worst decision and popped Nova out for a quick toilet break in her travel harness and a retractable lead.
We believe that she was bitten by a wasp or bee which caused her to take off, the lead slipping and then snapping.
She ran scared through the busy carpark, then headed straight onto the six-lane highway. We still can’t believe she somehow, with a five metre lead trailing behind, made it safely across the busy highway and straight into the huge bushland area.
My partner was immediately picked up by a stranger who took him along the highway until they could turn around to come back to where he had last seen Nova enter the bush.
He just happened to run into a motorbike highway police officer who had stopped near the location Nova had gone in. That officer radioed it in and had another police officer drive the back roads looking for Nova. My partner then entered the bush on his journey looking for her.
I was stuck on the other side of the highway not knowing what was going on, until some of the most amazing staff of Hungry Jacks who had run out with my partner to help try and catch Nova came back and let me know that my partner had been taken across the road by an amazing stranger.
The kind staff were trying to work out if someone was about to finish work and might be able to get me across the road, as I didn’t have the car keys, they were in my partner’s pocket.
That’s when an amazing angel was heading towards me in her Animal Justice Party shirt. I knew immediately I was in good company. Without hesitation she and her amazing friend said they would help me across the highway.
By some miracle or divine intervention, this angel was a volunteer of a group who just happens to help missing and lost dogs: Milly’s Search and Trap and Reunite.
Kat and Anne (my earth angels) set to work helping me remain calm and starting to get the word out about Nova, leaving my phone number everywhere we could, until they had to continue to their destination.
Kat made sure to start a chat group with Milly’s Search and Trap before she left so that the team would be able to send me helpful information. Thanks so much to Lyn for all the messages back and forth and posting on community pages to get the word out.
One amazing resident not only posted on community pages, she came out searching, helped us get our car over the highway to where we needed it to keep searching for Nova, and offered so many things from dinner to a place to sleep, as well as torches if we needed.
I tried my absolute best to keep my voice calm and instead of calling out to Nova I used all her fun command words for training, singing, etc. I also tried to keep in a small area, hoping I would leave my scent in one location for her to focus on.
It was getting so close to dark. I was so worried for her knowing how scared she was.
Once darkness hit, my hope started to fade that I would never see my precious girl again.
That’s when the marvellous Milly’s team reached out again. They were on their way to help offer support and guidance. You have no idea how much this amazing act of kindness lifted my spirits once again.
It was truly the biggest relief when Jo and Mark arrived clutching a roast chicken to help lure her in, along with some absolutely great advice and calming energy.
We focused on an area and all just talked calmly, whilst listening and waiting for any sign. Roughly 30 minutes later, we heard a noise and then a small little white head popped up like a meerkat.
Any movement or new noise seemed to push her further back into the bush. We moved as slowly as we could towards the bush. Jo reminded me to get down low.
This was probably the most terrifying time, other than her dash to the highway. It was all up to me to remain calm and try to lure her in. I was so scared that any noise or wrong move would set her off on another mad dash, as we were still close to the highway.
What felt like 30 minutes must have only been 10 minutes. I got as low as I could, even a normal crawl was too high. I had to get lower, so I army crawled through the bush ever so slowly.
Not calling her, but just using fun words, singing, and clutching some roast chicken for more encouraging smells to help lure her in.
It was so hard to remain calm and slow when all you want to do is rush in and snatch her up… but slow and steady was what was needed.
The last few centimetres were so petrifying. I ever so slowly moved my hand along her side and as soon as I knew I was close enough, I quickly grabbed her harness and pulled her in.
She was safe.
She was still not out of danger. I had to keep holding and get her out of the bush and into the car.
We attached another lead around her neck. I had Mark grab that and promise not to let go. I had hold of the other and, due to not being able to physically carry her any further, I let my partner carry her also.
The three amigos clutching this precious girl to safety.
I am forever grateful for all who helped in getting our girl home and safe.
I honestly can’t thank all the kind strangers who either went searching through the bush, gave rides, offered drinks, food, or even a bed.
I’m honestly very humbled by you all. No words can ever express my gratitude and thanks.
Safe, Loved, and Healing
Nova’s story is one of survival, community, and love. She should never have been abandoned. She should never have been put at such risk. And yet, with help, she survived.
Nova is now safe and thriving in our family, but she stands as a reminder of all the rescues still waiting and why Falkors legacy fund matters. There will always be more dogs like Nova. Abandoned, lost or in danger. Dogs like her need food, vet care, foster homes, and families to fight for them, just like Falkor once did.
Every donation helps us give them the second chance they deserve.
